Two Defendants Plead Guilty in ATM "Skimming" Case

On June 11, 2012, Nikolai Ivanov and Dimitar Stamatov were sentenced to 3-to-9 years in prison for using illegal “skimming” devices planted on ATM machines in Manhattan to steal the debit card numbers of nearly 1,500 individuals and then exploiting the stolen debit card numbers to make more than $285,000 in fraudulent transactions. The skimming devices consisted of a green plastic lip that fit over the slot where users dip their ATM cards, as well as hidden video cameras. Both defendants previously pled guilty to the top count of the indictment, Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, and other related charges.
