Michael Kenny Sentenced to 25 Years-to-Life for Fatally Stabbing His Wife in Midtown Hair Salon Where She Worked

On March 28, 2013, Michael Kenny was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison for fatally stabbing his wife in a hair salon in Midtown. On March 8, 2013, a jury found Kenny guilty of Murder in the Second Degree and Aggravated Criminal Contempt for stabbing his wife multiple times in the chest, leg, hand, and forearm inside the bathroom of the West 35th Street salon where the victim worked. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital and declared dead. After the attack, Kenny stole cash from the salon register and fled to Brooklyn, where he stole a van and drove to Maryland. The defendant led police officers on a five-mile motor vehicle chase before he was apprehended, extradited to New York, and arraigned on an indictment in New York Supreme Court on March 24, 2011. According to court documents, Kenny had prior convictions for threatening and assaulting his wife, as well as violating orders of protection.
