Vilma Bautista Sentenced to 2-to-6 Years Prison for Tax Fraud Involving Valuable Art By Claude Monet and Others

On January 13, 2014 Vilma Bautista was sentenced to 2-to-6 years prison for illegally conspiring to possess and sell valuable works of art acquired by former First Lady of the Phillippines Imelda Marcos during her husband’s presidency, for keeping the proceeds for herself, and then hiding those proceeds from New York State tax authorities and others.   On November 18, 2013, she was convicted by a jury of Criminal Tax Fraud in the First Degree, Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree.
